“To forge a fine sword, it took ten years”
In the hands of the Lord, grace abounds.
“To forge a fine sword, it took ten years" is a famous line from the poem “The Swordsman” (劍客) by the Tang Dynasty poet Jia Dao (賈島). The swordsman spent ten years carefully honing the sword. As a result, the blade of the sword is as white as frost and sharp, capable of achieving extraordinary feats. In 2010, our school was invited by the External School Review (ESR) Team of the Education Bureau to conduct our second "external school review". In the blink of an eye, thirteen years passed. At the beginning of this academic year, the school was invited to join the "external school review" once again. The ESR Team reviewed many documents, observed classes, conducted interviews with different stakeholders, and observed lessons to understand the overall development of the school’s teaching.
Thank you, Lord, for allowing us to successfully complete a five-day external review work. In the oral report, thanking the ESR team for their high appreciation of the school and for affirming us in various categories. They also appreciated that our school displays many highlights. On top of this, the team provided specific and valuable suggestions for improvement.
Here are the highlights from the ESR Team comments: the school's professional, cohesive, and dedicated teaching and management team is highly appreciated; classroom teaching is excellent and effective; teachers diligently support students’ growth; parents trust and support the school; and alumni have strong ties to the school, providing enthusiastic feedback and participating in service to their alma mater, effectively becoming the school's "talent pool" to help students thrive.
In terms of teaching and learning, the curriculum planning is exemplary. With the collaboration of various subjects, the school's overall English learning has improved significantly, creating a rich English learning atmosphere. Regarding school culture and students’ support, the planning is adequate, and the effective use of Christian activities helps instill proper values in students. Disciplinary work, leadership training, career planning, and extracurricular activities are satisfactory and help facilitate holistic development aligned with Christian principles.
“Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain." Psalm 127:1
In the hands of the Lord, grace abounds. In the "Secondary School Diploma Value-added Report" for 2023, the "core four subjects" and "core five subjects" continued to show high added value, serving as proof and a record of our teaching effort. The teachers remained committed to their roles, guiding students through challenges and demonstrating the achievements of both teachers and students.
